About Applying to Rutgers

The Way we Report Decisions

Rutgers official admissions decisions appear only on each student's personal Your Rutgers Status page. For a description of "How We Make Decisions," please see the descriptions for first-year and transfer applicants.

The Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR)

  • Your first-year students are required to self report their courses, grades, grade-point averages and rank-in-class (if known) with Rutgers' free-standing online form: the Self-Reported Academic Record (SRAR). When students submit a SRAR, they do not need to provide an interim transcript prior to graduation.
  • The SRAR must include all courses and final grades earned from grades 9 through 11 and courses in progress in grade 12.
  • To complete the SRAR, we recommend students obtain and reference a copy of their unofficial high school transcript. To preview the SRAR, click here.
  • All enrolling students will be required to request that their high schools submit an official transcript with all courses and final grades by July 15, 2012.
  • High school students can create a SRAR account at any time during their high school careers.  Please encourage your students to create a SRAR account early so that they can track their academic progress through high school and better prepare for our application process.

NJ Smart ID
All public, elementary and secondary schools in New Jersey are required by law to include their students' NJ Smart ID (SID) on all transcripts and other student records. Students attending private or non-NJ schools, will not have a SID. Since Rutgers is now required to collect a SID for its applicants, we are asking students to provide this number when completing our application. Our application instructs students to contact their guidance counselor if they do not know their SID. Students who do not have a SID can leave the question blank.
  • The application essay is required for first-year applicants and recommended for transfer applicants.
  • Essays be composed and submitted as part of the online application in the essay box provided.
  • The essay is an important factor in admission decisions.
  • Essays submitted separately from the application will not be considered.
