The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry offers a course of study in which traditional and modern biochemistry are integrated with studies in molecular biology. In addition, students are required to carry out one of the three research options available to molecular biology and biochemistry majors. This course of study prepares students for graduate studies in molecular biology and biochemistry and related fields, entry into professional schools in medicine or other health professions, or employment in industries (e.g., biotechnology, pharmaceuticals) in which molecular biology and biochemistry skills are in demand.
Sophomores in the life sciences Summer Research Fellows Program can work with mentors on a hands-on project in the laboratory and participate in library research workshops, ongoing seminars, and field trips.
