Academic Credentials
Your application for admission is not complete until we have received
the following:
- Application fee;
- All official secondary school records;
- All official university or college records showing yearly subjects
and marks; and
- All appropriate test scores.
Please note:
- All records submitted must be official, original documents
or certified true copies. We do not return credentials, so we
strongly suggest you send certified true copies of documents that
are not replaceable. A certified true copy is a photocopy of the
original document, to which an educational or consular official
has affixed his/her signature and/or official seal indicating
that this is an attested--or certified true copy--of the original
document.
- We cannot render an admissions decision until the results of
your graduation certificate/diploma examinations are received.
- Your credentials must specify exactly which subjects you studied
and for how long. If they do not, you must supply this information
with your application.
- Documents not in English must be accompanied by a translation
verified by a language professor or professional translator.
- You are responsible for providing copies of your documents.
Students from British-patterned
educational systems (U.K., East and West Africa, Hong Kong, Commonwealth
Caribbean, Guyana, Malaysia, etc.):
- Submit certified copies of IGCSE, GCSE, GCE "O" and
"A" levels (if taken), or local equivalent such as the
West African School Certificate, Hong Kong Certificate of Education,
etc.
Students from other areas:
- Submit secondary school final examination certificate results.
These may include reports, marks sheets, diplomas, certificates,
or examination results which indicate completion of present studies,
the specific subjects studied, and the marks or results received.
For example: students who attended French-patterned schools should
submit documentation of a completed Baccalaureate; students who
studied in Indian schools should submit the Higher Secondary
Certificate and Secondary School Certificate.
Do not send the following:
- Transcripts for work completed before grade nine;
- Sport certificates; or
- Craft certificates.
To ensure that a decision on your application is not delayed, please note the following:
- Copies of high school or secondary school documents must be
stamped "attested as true copies" by an educational
official from your school, council, or embassy/consulate. If you are in the NJ area
and have the original document, you must bring both your original
and a photocopy to our office for an admissions representative
to certify the photocopy as true. We will not make copies of your
originals.
- Notarized documents are not acceptable. Consular officials
or educational officials from your school or educational board
or council are the only acceptable certifying agents.
- Documents in your native language must be translated professionally
by a translation service or a language professional, and must
arrive on the professional letterhead of the translator.
- Credit evaluation from an evaluation service does not determine
which credits will transfer to the university. After you have
been admitted to Rutgers and you have accepted our offer of admission,
the university's deans will determine how much credit you will
receive for work done prior to attending Rutgers. When you enroll, your credentials will be evaluated by Rutgers
University for transfer credit. The results of this evaluation
may vary from that provided by an evaluation service if you used
such a service to evaluate your previous work.
- Although an evaluation service may have seen your original documents, you
must submit them to Rutgers for evaluation by the university.
