Part-Time Students (degree or non-degree candidates)

A part-time student is enrolled in fewer than 12 credits
- Applicants for part-time study complete the same application as applicants for full-time study
- To be admitted for part-time enrollment, the student must meet our admissions requirements
- International students planning to attend on a student visa (F-1) may not enroll on a part-time basis

Matriculating Students (degree candidates)
- A matriculating student is pursuing a Rutgers degree
- A matriculating student can be a part-time or full-time student

Non-Matriculating Students (non-degree candidates)
- A non-matriculating student is taking courses at Rutgers, but not pursuing a Rutgers degree.
- Who May Apply for Non-Matriculated Undergraduate Enrollment?
- Students who have completed a United States bachelor’s degree or its equivalent
- Students who have graduated from high school and are/have been matriculated at another college or university and wish to take courses to transfer back to their home institution
- Students who wish to take courses during the summer (this does not require completing the undergraduate admissions application; see Summer Session)
- Adults who wish to take courses for personal enrichment or career advancement but are not seeking a Rutgers degree
- Non-matriculating students may enroll on a space-available basis and may take a limited number of courses. For availability of non-matric courses, see Where to Apply.
- Students wishing to be considered for non-matric status must submit the following:
- The Undergraduate Application for Admission
- All college transcripts or proof of having obtained a bachelor's degree
- The application fee.
- Applicants for non-matriculating study complete the same application as applicants for matriculated study
- International students planning to attend on a student visa (F-1) may not enroll on a non-matriculated basis
- To be admitted for non-matriculated enrollment, the student must meet our admissions requirements
